The old-city part of Tashkent will turn into a tourism and shopping zone in a traditional Uzbek architectural style.
In Tashkent, the oldest part of the city will turn into a tourism zone and market place set in traditional Uzbek architecture and authentic historic surroundings, the press service of the President of Uzbekistan communicated. These parts of the city can be dated as far back as the 15th and 16th centuries, the most notable buildings in the area are Chorsu Bazaar, Khoja Ahrar Vali Mosque and Kukeldash madrassah. Unfortunately, many of the historic buildings in the city were lost due to an earthquake in 1966 that leveled most of the city.
A new building for archives comissioned
The Presidential press service also indicated that the construction of a new National Archive has been ordered.
"The National Archival Fund is one of the most extensive and unique in the region. Currently, 1 million 800 thousand documents from various periods of history are stored here," the statement said.
The new archive building will innovatively embody advanced modern architectural techniques. It is expected to increase the capacity of the archives to 3 million storage units, establish a repository, expand the reading room, and refine the access process, through the latest IT technologies, to ensure that the level of service to researchers is of the highest standard.
