Uzbek TV channel UZREPORT sues mobile operator Beeline over copyright infringement
Uzbekistan’s privately owned news TV channel UZREPORT has filed a lawsuit against Unitel, a subsidiary of the VEON group of companies, which provides cellular communication services under the Beeline trademark in Uzbekistan.
A statement filed by Uzreport notes that Beeline, without the conclusion of an agreement, has been engaged in retransmission of UZREPORT TV and FUTBOL TV (owned by UZREPORT) content through its mobile application "Beeline TV".
“The mobile operator grossly violates the copyright of the TV channel, while receiving financial benefits. Despite repeated warnings, no measures were taken. As a result, the TV channel was forced to resolve the dispute through the court”, an official statement of UZREPORT says.
As the operator has not suspended the broadcasts yet, the TV channel has asked the court to oblige the operator to suspend the retransmission.
